A system for the collection of case safety information as a continuous pre-organized process. Active surveillance can be:
- Drug based: identifying adverse events in patients taking certain products;
- Identifying adverse events in certain healthcare settings where they are likely to present for treatment
- Event based: identifying adverse events that are likely to be associated with medicinal products, e.g., liver failure.
